Two Worlds is my consultancy company. My specialisation is in innovation: identifying opportunities for product and service innovation and helping organisations of all sizes become fit for innovation. Underpinning both is my ability to develop strategic views of markets and trends, help clients plan for an uncertain future and develop the road maps that help them get there, from wherever they happen to currently be.
Doing that effectively requires the ability and experience to creatively integrate technology, process, business models and market trends. With more than thirty years industry experience, ranging from network research through AI, games development, enterprise software architecture and organisational consultancy, I have worked with clients large and small in a wide range of industries.
As an entrepreneur I’ve founded, developed and exited from a number of companies, including The Digital Village (co-founded with Douglas Adams, creating the award-winning game, Starship Titanic and h2g2.com – the Hitchhiker’s Guide made real – which presaged both Wikipedia and Facebook), Connect TV (enabling technology for hybrid TV, sold to Arqiva in 2012), SlipStream (a universal integrator for broadcast and IP content), udu, Inc. (an A-Life based collaborative scheduling startup). I am also co-founder of The Do Lab technology incubator where I work with fellow founders to turn new ideas into a new generation of products and services.
Current activities include collaborative software systems, ‘Big Data’ analytics, device convergence (IoT) and adaptive, self-organising software (AI & A-Life). Current sectors include organisational consultancy, Broadcast television and IP content health care.
I have worked with clients large and small, a few of which include Bioss, the organisational consultancy, Apple, AT&T Labs, Intel, SAS Institut and The Gorilla Organisation (as it now is).
I am also an assessor for the UK’s InnovateUK innovation agency.
I am also a photographer and writer and I and my partner have recently won the Daily Telegraph/Homebuilding & Renovation award for UK Renovation of the Year 2014 for the eco-renovation of our farmhouse in the Scottish Highlands.
